Ukrnafta starts building 63 MW of its own power generation

Ukrnafta plans to install part of a new 63 MW distributed-generation portfolio already this year. The company has secured €45 million in EBRD donor financing for 17 generation sites and selected the equipment supplier. Around 70–80% of the electricity will secure Ukrnafta’s own operations, with the remainder supplied to the grid. The company is also discussing a much larger 250 MW combined heat-and-power project with the EBRD. This illustrates an increasingly important investment trend: major Ukrainian companies are becoming their own energy producers. After repeated Russian attacks on the grid, electricity self-sufficiency is moving from emergency backup toward a permanent element of corporate investment strategy.
